About

I am a maker and designer working mainly in ceramics who likes mixing materials to explore how different elements can relate, resist and illuminate.

I make work with meaning, telling stories through my making and crafting objects to be treasured, touched and held. My work seeks to hold a quiet beauty with an emotional language expressed in each piece. With a passion for art and heritage, I have travelled extensively developing a deep appreciation for world cultures. My inspiration is drawn from the art and culture I have experienced around the world as well as closer to home.

Based in Leicester, England, I am a design crafts graduate from De Montfort University where I am continuing my development spending a year as graduate artist in residence. I am a graduate member of Design-Nation and of Crafts Council England.

Background

In my first career I was proud to have played my part through various leadership roles in making culture and the arts more accessible to more people. As time went by though, I found I had little opportunity to develop my own creativity. I put that right at aged fifty, taking a leap of faith to rebalance my life goals. I took time out to do a part time Foundation in Art and Design at De Montfort University and alongside that set up my own consultancy business.

At first I thought my art practice was just a sideline, a chance to grow, to learn and play a little but after two years I graduated with a distinction and I was truly hooked. I went on to do a degree part time and I am now the delighted recipient of a first class honours degree in Design Crafts.

I completely loved being around all the youthful talent at university and learned a lot from the open, original and inventive ideas of my class mates. Gradually I have rebalanced my work priorities until my artist practice now takes centre stage. A decade on, I’m happy to say I’ve never been more fulfilled and excited about whatever the future holds!
